Marionette Folds

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers contain Hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a complex sugar naturally found in many tissues of the body, such as skin and cartilage. HA binds to water to increase fullness and elasticity in the skin to correct the appearance of wrinkles and facial folds. It serves as a moisturizer by attracting and attaching water molecules to give skin its elasticity and tone.

As we age, our skin renews itself more slowly and produces less HA, collagen and elastin, leaving us with thinner skin in which wrinkles and folds may start to appear. Using moisturizer may provide a short-term effect. However, HA dermal fillers truly get moisture deep under the skin. HA dermal fillers have the ability to integrate with your own facial tissue to get natural-looking results.

Each dermal filler is designed for a particular purpose, whether it’s to treat fine or deep lines/folds, restore facial volume for a lifting effect, or reshape and redefine the lips.

Your qualified aesthetic practitioner may suggest several treatments using a range of different products to create a tailored treatment plan for you.

Eternally Young only uses premium brands of dermal filler including the Juvederm® range, the Belotero® range and the Teosyal® range. Within each brand range there are specific dermal fillers that have been developed especially for use in the different areas of the face. Different fillers come in different densities (thicknesses) therefore the dermal filler needed is determined by what area of the face it will be used in.

For example, to lift & contour the cheekbones a more dense or thick dermal filler is required such as Juvederm® Voluma or Belotero® Volume. Conversely, when injecting the lips or the fine lines around the mouth, a softer less dense (thick) dermal filler is required so that it integrates better within the tissue and allows the natural movement of facial expression whether you’re smiling, frowning or laughing.

The ways that dermal fillers can enhance and refresh your look include: Softening your naso-labial lines (nose-to-mouth lines) Improving your marionette lines/folds (from corners of mouth to jawline) Softening and smoothing the lines around your mouth e.g. smoker’s lines

  • Adding fullness & definition to your cheeks
  • Softening your chin crease
  • Contouring your chin and jawline
  • Adding volume to your temples

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers blend & integrate with the tissue under the skin for a natural look and feel, whether you’re smiling, laughing or frowning.

During consultation, your qualified medical aesthetics practitioner will look at your face whilst it’s still (static) and moving (dynamic) to make sure they’re able to give you a result you’ll be happy with.

HA dermal fillers are reversible so you can return to pre-filler appearance if requested.

Results can last from 6-18 months, depending on the treatment chosen and the area treated. Lip fillers tend to break down a little quicker than other areas of the face.

Eternally Young uses dermal fillers that contain the anaesthetic lidocaine, which can help reduce any discomfort you may feel during treatment. In addition, numbing cream is applied beforehand to help minimize any discomfort.

Results are instant so you will see an immediate improvement in the treatment area shortly after treatment. Most people return to their normal routine on the day they are treated, depending on treatment received.

Potential side effects associated with dermal fillers include temporary injection-site reactions such as:

  • Redness
  • tenderness
  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Discomfort
  • Firmness
  • Bumps
  • Tingling/numbness
  • Brusing
  • Discolouration

These reactions may occur immediately or may be delayed, and can last for up to a week. Injections in the lip may cause more swelling and bruising due to the unique physiology of this area.

As with any injection, there is a risk of infection. This is not a complete list of potential side effects.

If inflammatory reactions persist for more than one week, or if any other side effects develop, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

You may experience swelling or redness after treatment. Most patients return to their normal routine on the same day as their procedure, depending on treatment received.

On leaving the clinic you can return to your day-to-day life without disruption. However, your healthcare practitioner may advise you to avoid a few things for a while, such as wearing makeup on the treated areas, extended periods in the sun, saunas, UV rays or very cold temperatures.

Furthermore, it is advised to avoid other aesthetic procedures for 2 weeks after your treatment such as chemical peels or laser treatments. You can resume your normal skincare routine straight away.

Dermal fillers can last up to 18 months, depending on the treatment chosen. Many different factors determine how frequently you may want to have a repeat treatment such as the area treated, your age and your objectives for treatment.

So for example, if you objective is to improve sculpting and definition of your cheekbones then you may be advised to have treatment every 3 months until you have built up to a level you are happy with. Conversely, if you are reasonably young in age and want to improve your naso-labial lines (nose to mouth grooves) then you may only require treatment every 12-18 months to maintain your look.

What happens if I decide not have anymore dermal filler treatment? Dermal fillers are temporary, so if you decide not to have any more injections, the remaining hyaluronic acid will be naturally absorbed into your skin and the effects will fade away.

Your healthcare practitioner will have an in-depth consultation with you to understand your needs and what facial features you would like to enhance or revitalize.

They will explain all the options to make sure that your dermal filler treatment meets your expectations.

This is your opportunity to discuss the benefits and risks of all options with your healthcare practitioner. They may even take pre-treatment photographs so you can see the difference after treatment.

Your healthcare practitioner will inject the dermal filler under your skin using a fine needle. The smooth gel flows easily into the skin, providing a soft, natural look and feel. You will see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for my treatment? Talk to your healthcare practitioner if you are taking any medications that may prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), for advice on how to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

Treatment times are specific to each individual and will vary depending on the number of injections that are required for the results you want. Your healthcare practitioner will discuss exact treatment times with you when you decide on a plan. However, most treatments take 30 minutes to an hour.

Tell your healthcare practitioner if you: have severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis, multiple severe allergies, allergies to hyaluronic acid or other filler products, or allergies to lidocaine or other local anesthetics have a history of autoimmune disease, recurrent sore throats, rheumatic fever, epilepsy or porphyria are currently taking medications which prolong bleeding, such as acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or anticoagulants – as with any injection, you may experience prolonged bleeding.

You should inform your healthcare practitioner about any medications you are currently taking have recently had other skin surface treatments (such as laser treatment, skin peels or dermabrasion) or have previously used fillers have skin infections or inflammation such as acne or cold sores scar frequently are pregnant or breastfeeding, or you are under the age of 18 years as the safety of dermal fillers have not been established for that age.
